Relab Media Laboratory

The ReLab Media Laboratory is a structure of the Department of Communication and Economics of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. It deals with innovative forms of media, intermedial and transmedia production and the promotion of research in the field of theory and history of cinema, Media Studies and media archives dedicated to cinema, television, photography, university radio, also working on the relations between urban spaces, contemporary art and social media. 

Laboratory activities

  • Supervision and running of the Osservatorio Reggio Emilia project (dedicated to Home Movies in 2002-2004);
  • Management of the activities of the university radio station RumoreWeb (from 2010 to 2020);
  • Participation  in the Data Journalism project ‘Dato che penso’ (Given that I think), promoted by the Municipality of Reggio Emilia with the city's secondary schools (in 2017-2018): https://datochepenso.comune.re.it/progetto/
  • Creation of web portal dedicated to street art in the area of the former Reggiane Workshops promoted by STU Reggiane Spa: https://reggianeurbangallery.it/; and a portal for tourism in Reggio Emilia promoted by the Rotary Club Reggio Emilia https://visitareggio.it/.

RelabMedia also collaborates on research for the National Edition of the Works of Cesare Zavattini, -- financed by the former MIBACT -- which includes the digitisation of material from the Cesare Zavattini Archive (kept at the Panizzi Library in Reggio Emilia): https://edizionenazionale.cesarezavattini.it

Since 2005, ReLab Media has made numerous productions and organized meetings, seminars, conferences, some of which in collaboration with the Municipality of Reggio Emilia, the Magnani Foundation, and the ViaRoma49 Cultural Association.
