The Department of Communication and Economics organizes internships for students that are a compulsory part of their academic programme, in public and private organizations, companies, professional firms and trade associations.
Internships are intended to help students gain initial experience in the fields of their interest. They provide students with the opportunity to put into practice knowledge and skills acquired through classroom instruction to real-world scenario, as well as help them understand what they want and assess their genuine motivation for a particular professional role.
Internships are ECTs credited. (See degree programme regulations) Students can also decide to focus on the activities carried out during the internship in their final theses.
Although the internship has some features of an employment relationship, it does not constitute an employment relationship,
The duration of the internship varies. For graduates, the maximum duration is 6 months at the same company; for BA and MA students, the internship is maximum 12 months. For students with disabilities, the maximum duration extends to 24 months.
There are two types of internship:
1. "Curricular" Internships, constituting an integral part of Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes; their completion allows the acquisition of the university credits necessary to obtain the degree.
2. "Extra-Curricular" Internships, or post-graduate internships aimed at new graduates who wish to gain initial experience of the job market. The activation of extra-curricular internships through the UNIMORE Internship Platform has been suspended since 01/07/2019. For more information, contact: stage.dce@unimore.it.
To start your internship, you must sign an Agreement and a Training Project.
The University (the Promoting Entity) and the Company/Organization (the Host Entity) that accepts the student enter into the Agreement.
The Training Project outlines content, organization, and training objectives of the internship. Specifically, it details the main elements of each internship, such as:
- Interns' personal information;
- Goals and content of the internship;
- Insurance coverage, provided by the University as the promoting entity;
- Duration and period of the internship.
Use the UNIMORE Internship Platform to apply for the internship. For assistance and advice, companies and students can contact the Department’s Internship Office (stage.dce@unimore.it).
The Internship Office also offers consultancy to companies looking for interns or wishing to post internship/job announcements for students and graduates.
To activate curricular internships, the Department of Communication and Economics uses the Internship Platform of the UNIMORE Placement Services portal.
To activate curricular internships, the Department of Communication and Economics uses the Internship Platform of the UNIMORE Placement Services portal. You can access the Platform after registering on Almalaurea and updating/verifying the information in their profile.
Please make sure you check your tax code (C.F.), student ID number, and degree programme in your profile. Please note that all MA students who completed their registration during their BA should update their profile accordingly. Also, the starting date of the internship should precede your expected graduation date.

Because Training Projects can only be published by companies, students must communicate their ID number and tax code (C.F.) to the host company.
APPROVAL OF THE INTERNSHIP TRAINING PROJECT
The Internship Office will approve the Training Project if:
a) the student meets the requirements for internship access;
b) the training objectives of the internship are approved by the Scientific Tutor.
Except for the BA in Digital Marketing, students must choose a supervisor (Scientific Tutor) and communicate his/her name to the Internship Office based on the assumed relevance of the internship to the supervisor. All supervisors work as professors, lecturers or research fellows at the Department of Communication and Economics.
Students in Digital Marketing will be directly assigned a Scientific Tutor by the Department.
Students will receive notice of approval of the internship via email from placement@unimore.it.
INTERNSHIP ACTIVATION
To confirm the activation of the internship, both the company and the student must sign the Training Project and return it via email to the Internship Office for its official signature before the internship start date.
The internship cannot begin before the Internship Office confirms the successful activation and the agreed start date to both the student and the company.
On successful activation of the internship, the Internship Office will provide the guidelines and forms that students will need in order to compile all relevant documentation for internship reporting at the end of the experience and be awarded university credits (ECTS) accordingly.
Note: All email notifications from the system (regarding approval, activation, etc.) will be sent from placement@unimore.it.
END OF INTERNSHIP AND CREDIT CERTIFICATION
At the end of the internship, students must submit the following paperwork to the Internship Office via email:
- The student’s attendance record signed by the company tutor;
- The monitoring form signed by the scientific tutor;
- A written report (1/2 pages, minimum 500, max 1000 words) on the internship experience, including: a description of the company and sector, a description of the tasks/activities performed, and an evaluation of the skills acquired.
To ensure correct credit certification by the Student Office, the internship must be completed at least 14 days before the graduation date.
The starting date and end date of the internship are fixed and written in the Training Project. Any changes to such dates (extension, early termination, etc.) must be immediately communicated to the Internship Office.
